Notes

Esther MEYER:

More about Esther HØST (MEYER):

Birth: An Ontario birth registration indicates a birth mother of “Joanna Host.” No father is indicated. On 14 October 1929, she travelled to the United States with a destination of Washington, DC. Her Buffalo, NY border crossing record indicates her birth date and a father’s name of “Cajus Host” -- her grandfather, and the closest male ancestor with her surname. (Cajus died before Esther was born and could not have been her father. This is also an uncommon given name in Denmark.)
Father: Paternal father is unknown, supposedly a farmhand on the farm Johanne lived at in Denmark. She was adopted by Svend MEYER.
Languages: English, Danish.
Residences: Toronto, Ontario (14 October 1929, date of border crossing); United States (1929-36 – according to 1936 NY arrival record), Queens, New York (1935-40); West Palm Beach Florida (1945); Clinton Corners, NY (late 1940s). Winter home in Florida. Elora, ON (1940s); 383 Central Park West, NYC (21 February 1936).
Travel: Arrived in New York, 21 February 1936 onboard the Carinthia, apparently on a cruise (departing and returning to NYC).
Occupation: Domestic servant (1929); Nurse (1936); Hostess, World’s Fair Corp (1940). (The 1939 World’s Fair was held in New York. The NY World’s Fair Corporation was on one of the highest floors of the Empire State Building.) Ran Hilltop Farm’s nursery (Elora, ON), part of the Meyer farm after 1940.
Citizenship: Petitioned for American naturalization in the late 1940s at Poughkeepisie, NY. Retained dual citizenship.

Personal characteristics: Gray eyes, brown hair, 130 lbs, 5’ 6” (1940s)
Second husband: Had a yacht at Flushing Meadows (Queens) Marina (site of the tennis tournament) in 1968.
